2026 Ranger Tugs R-23 VS. R-25: Key Differences

News |2025-08-19

Ranger Tugs R-23 vs R-25: Which Pocket Cruiser is Right for You?

At Pocket Yacht Company, we get this question all the time: “Should I choose the Ranger Tugs R-23 or the R-25?” The answer depends on your needs. Both models are versatile, trailerable pocket cruisers that bring serious charm, but they each offer a different flavor of adventure.

Why Boaters Love These Pocket Cruisers

Whether you’re a weekend wanderer or a seasoned cruiser, these boats are like RVs on the water. They’re compact but thoughtfully designed to give you all the essentials. Inside both the R-23 and R-25, you’ll find a functional galley (kitchenette), enclosed head (bathroom), convertible dinette, and multiple berths for overnighting. The interior space transforms to match your lifestyle. You can cook, dine, relax, and sleep right on the hook. Both are easily trailerable, so you can go wherever adventure calls.

Power and Performance
The R-23 is powered by a Yamaha 200 HP outboard, while the R-25 steps it up with a Yamaha 250 HP. Both models are trailerable with an 8’6” beam, making them great for weekend getaways and long-range adventures. The R-25’s extra horsepower and extended swim platform with a clear-path walkthrough offer better performance, boarding access, and usability at the dock or on the water.

Luxury and Comfort
The R-25 offered by Pocket Yacht Company comes as the Luxury Edition. Standard features include Air Conditioning with Reverse Cycle Heat, Lithium-Ion Batteries, Solar Panel, Macerator, Inverter, and Underwater Lights. These items are only available as optional upgrades on the R-23 which offers more of an à la carte experience. The R-25 also features a larger Garmin 1243xsv chartplotter at the helm, while the R-23 comes equipped with a Garmin 943xsv.

Interior Space and Amenities
Inside, the R-25 offers a bit more elbow room, especially in the head, which includes an Electric Marine Toilet. The R-23 features a Manual Pump Toilet. The R-25 has a private head door, whereas the R-23 has a folding convertible door. Both models include a forward stateroom, mid-berth, and convertible dinette, but the R-25’s cabin offers added comfort for extended cruising. The R-25 also comes with a hanging locker in the cabin, creating a nice space for your items, whereas the R-23 does not.

Options & Customization
Both boats have a wide range of factory upgrades, including Hull Color Options, Garmin xHD Radar, Autopilot with Remote, Auxiliary Motor Package with Electric Steering, Aft Cockpit Sun and Sunset Shades, and a Safety Kit. The R-25 has the additional option of a Kenyon Electric Grill, which is not available on the R-23.

Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option with essential cruising capabilities, the R-23 is a fantastic choice. But if you want a fully loaded cruiser with more power, comfort, and high-end amenities, the R-25 Luxury Edition stands out as the go-to model.
